Circuits for Debug 7 Segment Display
Description and Calculations
We planned to use SPI to communicate to the C32 board, on which we had many unused ports, so that we could drive a 7 segment display to indicate various messages as we debugged our robot, so that we would not always need to be connected to a tether to know what was going on. While it worked, we never used this feature, because we were always connected to the tether and that was not problematic. The circuit uses a shift register, so that only 3 ports are needed to control 7 segments. The next stage is a buffer that sources the current to drive the 7 segment display.
