The throttle mechanism was supported in a similar way, but a potentiometer was mounted to the end of the PVC pipe to measure the position of the lever.  A supplemental support was attached to the surface of the support structure and allowed us to use a longer arm for the throttle and prevent interference between the steering and throttle.  At the top of the throttle, another potentiometer was housed inside a circular casing that could be turned to adjust the magnitude of the free analog command.  A button was placed on top of the knob and is used to activate the free analog command.
